Gretta Sarfaty (Atenas/Grécia, naturalizada brasileira) hoje vive e trabalha entre São Paulo e Londres. Suas obras já percorreram importantes espaços, como: Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Palazzo dei Diamanti de Ferrara, Galeria Diagramma Milano, New York University (NYU), Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne, Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, Le Bal Musée d’Art Paris, Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo (MAC/USP), Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM/SP), Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) Museu Nacional de Belas Artes (MNBA), Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, 13ª Bienal Internacional de São Paulo. Fundação Bienal, São Paulo, Brasil, Museum of Modern Art of New York (MoMa), Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, The Art Institute of Chicago.

 

Egressa da vanguarda artística da década de 70, Gretta notabilizou-se internacionalmente por suas performances, instalações, vídeos, fotografias e pinturas relacionados à Body Art e ao feminismo. Segundo o curador Fábio Magalhães, ainda que em Nova York (1987) Gretta tenha desenvolvido seus primeiros trabalhos com computador à procura de novos suportes e de novos meios de expressão, o corpo manteve-se como fio condutor de sua poética. “O corpo fecundou toda sua linguagem. Não se trata de tema recorrente, e sim de território onde pulsa vida sem repouso – energia em incessante movimento”, ressalta Magalhães.

 

Muito jovem Gretta fez parte da XII Bienal de São Paulo e ganhou individual na emblemática Petite Galerie, no Rio de Janeiro, em 1974. Enquanto esteve nos Estados Unidos e Inglaterra, além de individuais, participou de inúmeras coletivas pelo exterior, entre as quais Bad Girls: Good girls go heaven. Bad girls go everywhere (2010), ao lado de nomes como Marina Abramovic, Yoko Ono e Annette Messager, no Palazzo Squarciafico, na Itália; e Exploring Spatial Enviroments by woman artists in the 1960s and 1970s (2016), na Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, em Portugal. No mesmo período, suas obras também fizeram parte de exposições no Brasil: Europa, França e Bahia, retrospectiva de 15 anos no MIS e Paço das Artes –SP (1988); Auto-Retrato do Brasil: Gretta Sarfaty, MASP –SP (1983): Arte Conceitual e Conceitualismos: anos 70, no MAC –USP (2000); Fotolivros Latino-americanos, no Instituto Moreira Salles (2013); entre outras.
